Automobiles in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say initial examinations show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.

An important representative said the incident rendered him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
